I have been meaning to get some bottom feeders for quite sometime for my g/f's 90 gallon tank. I know from everything I've read on this site that cories have a huge fan club so on the weekend I finally picked up 4 panda corys. It wasn't until I got them home that I realized I don't know as much about them as I probably should. What does one feed them? sinking algae wafers (g/f has them for her snail tank)? Or is there another sinking type food I should pick up? Also, while I know they should be kept in groups pf at least 4, even my LFS guy told me that they would be scarce on the bottom of a 90 and that I would probably eventually want more. Being as this is the first time I have seen them, I was also wondering whether is should be panda cories that I need more of, or if they will shoal with other types of cory as well?

They will shoal with other types of cories but prefer their own kind. I feed a mix of sinking wafers, homemade foods, frozen (but defrosted) blood worms, tubifex, and brine. My cories eat all of those things though they have never shown an interest in the oft recommended shrimp pellets and algae wafers. They will also eat uneaten flake.

My Pandas love shrimp pellets. Actually all my corys like them. I also feed micro pellets, flake and blood worms.

thanks for the advice. I'll pick some up tonight on my way home

My cories love shrimp pellets (my whole tank congregates for some before the cories finish), but only really like certain brands of algae wafers. Nothing seems to like the Aquarian algae wafers, and I'm not getting more of the stuff once it's gone (copper sulfate... not the best for inverts!). They also relished the lobster I put in once. I've never seen fish so happy and I doubt I ever will (at least not until next lobster season) :grinyes:

I agree with the LFS guy that you'll want more cories. Also, the more you have, the more you'll see them, and I don't mean just because of the numbers. Cories get braver with each additional member to their school, and a pretty big school would probably never be hiding.

Hence the reason I wanted to know if they had to be Pandas since I don't see them too often.

As far as eating anything that hits the floor of the tank, the trick is finding somethign that will hit the floor between the 10 or so large gouramis and the 15~ish danios lol

corys will eat just about anything, besides plant matter. Mine love beef heart, bloodworms (frozen and dried) and shrimp pellets, they will also eat flakes that fall to the floor.

I know when I am overfeeding as my cories are not out "hustling groceries" on the bottom of the tank.
