What variety is my paradise fish?

I have examples of what I mean by variety (name wise):
Blue Paradise Fish
Red Paradise Fish

It was sold to me as a green paradise fish for $2.99 at 5.5cm. tHe picture will show it as it was today it's first day. Mine is really fearless. When I wiped the acryllic off with a damp paper towel he followed me around to every side of the tank.

He's a standard Macropodus ocellatus, aka The Paradisefish. Blue paradisefish, red paradisefish...they're simply marketing names. Green paradise is a new one to me.

Black paradisefish are a different species M. concolor (or whatever their current name is...it keeps changing on me...also known as M. spechti), and Chinese/Roundtail paradisefish (M. chinensis) are the only for sure valid species at this time.

You'll find black paradisefish in the hobby from time to time, but I've only every heard of M. chinensis showing up in Singapore and Hong Kong fish shops. I want one...badly!

Nice looking paradisefish BTW. Sometimes LFSs will sell them as blue or red depending upon that the breeding strain - some carry more of one color than the other. Your guy has nice, heavy read stripes.

They are exceptionally cool fish - very outgoing, fearless, and make the finest 3 to 4" TL wet pets I know of.
