Paradise goruami face plant.

Hi,
My paradise gourami, jumped. I was trying to sleep last night. when my keen sense of hearing(lol) heard a something hit the floor. i scooped him up. and put him in. He had blood going down one side of his face. and he coughed up some too(blech.. gory). Was a little worried at first, but he seems to be doing ok. He kinda smashed his face tho.(yes i have a tank hood.. he jumped out through filter slot).. the temp is about 75F. I figure he'll be ok.does any one know the reason my paradise gourami jumped?

Is a paradise gourami the same as a paradise fish? Paradise fish are excellant jumpers (mine will jump up to take food out of my hand). It could have been anything, but most likely he was either startled, thought he saw something to eat out of the water, or he got a little over active in trying to get your attention.

Maybe try to cover the fitlter-gap with a piece of window screening material and some well placed velcro to keep it in place?

Try adding enough floating plants so that the surface is a tangle of them. My Paradisefish jumps and splashes to attract attention and show it's his territory.

yeah he should be ok.. unless he does it repeatedly. Most likely got chased and was startled then rocketed out of the water! sometimes i put a rag of the filter gap so the fish dont see the gap but if they do jump they have a light cushion around them ( that only happens when they dont just knock it off)
