I have been having problems with my Bolivian Rams. They do not eat, are turning dark, and losing weight rapidly. They also sometimes will scratch their gills on the substrate, and are usually breathing very heavily. There are no external signs of illness, which is why im thinking its an internal parasite. I have no experience dealing with parasites either. What I have done so far is done a 50 percent water change, turned the temperature up to 82, and added some salt. Adding the salt was probably a mistake because it was only a little bit, and did it more out of desperation than anything. Everyone seems to be doing fine and the rams seem to be better than they were before. Any suggestions as to what I could do to improve the situation?

20 Long filtration is OK, biowheel made fo up to 20 gallons. Its a little over crowded but im getting rid of 2 cories, so the bottom will be free for the rams. I was thinking of getting a sponge filter too, would that help?

UPDATE one of the rams is pooping white....I know this is a sign of internal parasite, so how should I go about treating it.

Levamisole hydrochloride is a good choice. You can also use others such as coppersafe. You should be aware that some medication can harm other things in your tank such as inverts and plants, or even your bio-filtration.
