hi guys i have 110g tank with several mixed occupant including one small parrot i do a 20% wc every 3-4 days and have been toying with the idea of getting a discus or two but my consern is the parrot - he has never been aggressive to any of my other fish and seems very chilled out ... what do you think....buy...or not to buy discus??????

trade the parrot and start stockin discus much more of a attractive fish.gl

I am unsure about parrots with discus compatibility, I have heard that parrots' personalities vary greatly, from peaceful to aggressive depending on the individual. As far as discus go, however, they need basically perfect water conditions and an established (I'd say 1 yr +) tank as they are very sensitive. They also need to be kept in groups of 4 at a minimum, I've heard some people say 5. So, if you get a bigger group of discus, and your parrot is peaceful, in that size tank (depending on other occupants of course) it might work.

the other occupant are generally g'mai kissys gold dwarf blue as for the parrot hes very relaxed we did have another but he vas very aggressive he took the side off one of my dwarf blues. so he had to go! traded for kissys do you think tank is large enough for 4 discuss as total inhabitant are 2xkissys, 2x dwarf blue g;mai, 2 gold g'mai 2xfemale betta, 6 plattys and 5 guppys??

i dont know.. kissys grow to over a foot in length dont they?? and i heard they can be very aggresive.. with discus it is advisable to understock

The kissing gouramis are not going to be compatible with discus. They get large (12 inches) and are known to be territorial and bully, chase and torment fish of similar size. They have been known to bully many fish to death due to stress, and discus are way more sensitive to stress and bullying that most fish. In fact I have read that even danios due to their hyper-activity could stress a discus enough to cause death, and obviously that is nothing compared to the bullying of a kissing gouramis.

yea without the kissys i think you should be fine..

i would say NO gouramis with discus period. aside from the "kissys", the blue and golds are aggressive as well. getting up to 6" long, they could potentially harass and stress the discus to death.

also, some of the smaller fish in your tank won't live long once you get your temperature up for discus, like guppies

thanks guys .... i guess id better start saving for a discus tank......... wife is gonna love that!!!
