I got a small Jack Dempsey from a friend who breeds them for fish food. It seems to have a Blood Parrot looking head and mouth. His JD has never been with other Cichlids, what would cause such a deformity?

Fry could just be born deformed, it's pretty common to see fish born with deformed mouths, crooked fins, no tails, etc.. They usually get culled and never make it to the distributor.

P.S. are both parents JD's and are there any BP's in your friend's tank in with them?

its called beak face its a JD trait widly known I have sevral jacks like yours

oh I'm sorry I didnt take the time to look at the photo. it seems that its just a small deform

I really dont see alot of Dempsey fry, so this was new to me. My 5 yr old picked him out of a group because he looked different..

I doubt anythings wrong with him
