After numerous brain numbing hours I have finally managed to complete part three of "A Philippine Fringing Reef & The Reef Aquarium" detailing the macroalgae and their subtidal habitat. If this does not convince everyone to set up a macroalgae refugium, then nothing will....lol

A Philippine Fringing Reef & The Reef Aquarium - Part Three

Hope it is of use!

Chuck: just did a quick read and it is impressive. Can't thank you enough for sharing your write-up. I am a firm believer in fuge/macroalgae...I don't like it in the DT because some of the species are so prolific..they become invasive. I like them in the fuge and they are of great value. I am also going to include Xenia in the fuge in the same capacity as macro based on some recent articles. Thanks again, terrific document and very well written. David

Wow, that is one of the most informative articles I've read concerning macro algae. Thanks, it is now bookmarked.

Very nice. I do keep your site bookmarked as it has a huge amount of information I reference all the time.

Thanks. This whole series has been excellent. You deal with a lot of topics that many of us in the hobby don't even realize exist. Have you thought of publishing this as a book when you are finished all the parts?

Thanks all. As you probably noted, it is a lengthy read even though I did my best to keep it an article and not a book..lol, But pick a fact or subject and it takes you off into ten or more other details, forcing me to pick a stopping point to where what info is provided is of use, hopefully I was able to walk that thin line between info overload and info of use. What struck me the most was how extremely complex each of the habitats are, even just the macroalgae themselves are very complicated little buggers...lol The next article is going to be on the kelp bed, while not really applicable to our uses, it is a habitat unto itself and I would be cheating were I to skip it. The last will be on the coral reef itself, which already has me scared as I know its going to be a huge challenge and take a great deal of time. Hopefully I can do it some justice.
