Patches of a clear jelly-like substance on plant leaves?

I think it depends on species and temperature. I'd guess anywhere from a week to a month.

Snails hatch, grow- live, reproduce and die at a faster rate the higher the temperature. Temperature accelerates their lives.

I imagine the Ottos will dominate who gets food first and control the snail population rather than the other way around... but I really don't know. Are you supplementing the Ottos with other veggies?

Time for the experts to step in and answer that question though. I don't think your Ottos are going to be outcompeted but I am an expert at nothing... ;)

As for supplements, yeah, I give my otos zucchini sometimes.
I'm really tempted to believe that you're right about the otos and the snails--because I'd love to take a handful of mts out of my betta tank and throw 'em in my 55....

my first plant in my 10g came with only 2 pond snails, which i happily accepted as my new inhabitants. now i have new patches each day and probably 30-50 snails, big and small, living in the 10g now.

Every few days or if im bored and start counting snails, ill pick them out by hand and feed as many as i can to my 40g. Free fish food!
