PC Game Requirements...please help.

I just skimmed that link, Abilor. I will read it more in depth after.

I guess I don't understand why the requirements support any version of that card past 3, *except* the 4 one. Makes no sense to me at all.

Hubby is probably gonna get all teary-eyed when I tell him. He wanted this game since he saw the commercials for it.

Basically, he is in love with the MAFIA game. And, I hate games, but I have to say it kicks total butt. Godfather seems to be close to it - from the little bit I've seen.

I'd upgrade to a Geforce 6600GT with your current AGP motherboard. That card will give you the most bang for your buck and will be able to play even the most graphic intensive games with relatively decent frame rates. I recently got one for my pentium 4, 2.8ghz computer. Bought it at Newegg.com for about $140.

QFT. I'd add that more RAM is required. A GB is about the minimum a gaming machine should have. I prefer 1.5 GB so I can delete my paging file with no worries. Also, when gaming, you'll want to turn all the background processes off. Also, you most certainly want to ensure that you are Spyware, Adware and Virus free. So, CTRL+ALT+Delete and see what all is running on your machine. Anything like iTunes helper and downloader can be killed when your hubby is getting his mobster fix on.

One last thing; if you are using onboard sound, which it seems you may be, that does take a little memory as well. you can get a decent sound card for dirt cheap these days, since they do not advance nearly as fast as video cards do.

One more one last thing (sorry, keep thinking of more) if this machine was purchased retail from Dell or Gateway or Office Max etc. you likely have a lot of bloatware on it. Check the add/remove programs window under control panel and see if there is anything you don't use that you can delete. Good luck!

Yep, Harlock is spot on!! You need a new graphic's card. As well you should up your ram another 512K. Good luck!!

the last computer game i played required at LEAST 1gig of RAM. VERY graphics intensive. it would play with 512, but it would use the graphics of earlier versions of the game.

The reasoning behind this is the GeForce 4 MX card is actually based on the GeForce 2 chip, which lacks some features the game needs to run properly. The GeForce 4 Ti, on the other hand, is the newer GeForce 4 chipset. Why they chose to do it this way, I can't tell you. Basically the "MX" is the "budget" or "lite" version of the card and it uses an entirely different chip.

The GeForce 3 series didn't have those issues. They were all based on the GeForce 3 chip, so they're all compatible.

Hopefully that answers your question.
