Hi guys,

I know this has nothing to do with fish, but I did notice a few of you are really good with computers and might be able to help me.

Here is the problem:
I have an Acer Desktop Computer featuring AMD Athlon II X2 215 Processor (AX3400-E2202) brand new and it has hdmi output.
I have a samsung 40" lcd tv model no# lnt4061fx/xac, which also has hdmi.
So I bought a 25' hdmi cable and hooked it up.

When I switch the tv to the appropriate source I can see my desktop background image but that's it! no icons no programs or web pages that are opened are seen on the tv just the background image.

I have searched high and low and most posts on the topic are about vga problems none are directly discussing hdmi to hdmi.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kev, move your mouse to either the left or the right of your computer monitor, as far as you can go. You might end up seeing it on the TV. What you have is called "extended desktop". If you want to mirror your displays (seeing the exact same thing on your desktop monitor and your TV), then you are going to have to change the properties from extending to "cloning". Different video card mfr's. have different terms for how multiple displays are used, so "extended", "mirroring", and "cloning" could be termed differently. One can right click on the desktop and choose an option to get to the display properties, but I can't tell you what that exactly is without knowing your operating system. Good luck with your project!

YESSSSSSS!
I knew it was something simple that I was missing!!
The term in windows 7 is duplicate these displays.

Thanks so much Mr. U I have been racking my brain over this since yesterday.

for some reason laptop to tv hdmi connections don't seem to also include sound. i just hook up a pair of wireless speakers or my bose 2.0 pc speakers to the headphone out for sound. irritating... but it works.

you need a video that carries sound over the hdmi cable. most standard cards that have hdmi dont carry sound. read your user guides to see if you can set it up to have audio go over the cable. if you are using a dvi to hdmi cable then you will never get audio over it

the video card is nvidia geforce 9200
The connection is hdmi to hdmi. on a brand new comp.

If I play music I get sound out of my pc speakers but not the tv.
If I play a movie I get no sound on either.
