I need to know how to feed my Pea Puffers. They have eaten all of my pond snails, but now I don't know what they are eating. I've read and been told Frozen, Brine shrimp or Micsis shrimp will be fine. But how do I get it to them? They don't come to the surface to feed, and the other fish eat everything before it gets to their level. I'm concerned I may be starving them.

I'm assuming Pea Puffer is one of the many names for dwarf puffers??

If that's the case then how long have you had it, and what are your parameters?

Dwarf Puffers usually will not eat for about a week after you first get them, and they are pretty picky about water parameters.

I suggest feeding frozen blood worms. That's what I had the most success feeding when I kept them.

Yeah Dwarf puffers, I guess... names, go figure.

I've had them for over a month now. They started eating my snails right away, but there hasn't been any snails to be seen for a couple of weeks now.

Maybe I'll switch to frozen blood worms then. Should I maybe try to drop some to the bottom of the tank for them, that's where they usually hang out.

Mine wouldn't accept dead food at first. If they don't go for the frozen bloodworms, try live blackworms. Mine can't resist them! From there, it was a chore to train them to accept dead foods.

Mine eat frozen bloodworms, frozen brine shrimp, and of corurse they realy enjoy hunting snails. I had no trouble getting them to eat the frozen. Good luck getting yours to eat.

Mine also eat frozen bloodworms, mysis shrimp, brine, daphnia and of course snails. You might want to get some sort of long eyedropper type tube to feed them with. I have mine in a Dwarf Puffer only tank so there is no competition for food. What store did you get them from? Call them and ask them what they fed them... if they even ate in the LFS.

Is there a chance you could start a snail bucket for the puffers? Im pretty sure your LFS would be willing to give you a handful, then you could let them do their snaily thing in a small tank, so youd have a constant supply.

Other fish? I hope you're keeping a species only tank with Pea/Dwarf puffers.

No, it's a community tank. I've had this discussion with other members. Mine are peaceful so far. I've been told they can cause problems. So, I'm keeping an eye on them. But a friend of mine recommended them to me, she has two in her community tank and has had them for a very long time with no problems. So, we will see what happens. If they turn out to be violent, I will donate them back to my LFS.

I'm not too worried about them.
