Pea Puffer fish

I plan on setting up a 10g freshwater pea puffer tank very very soon and im curious if anyone has tips or just knows a decent bit about these puffers that would like to share maybe the tank they have or just info on these little guys such as what i should put in the tank plantwise/decorations and what would be the best substrate for them.
any info/comments is appreciated, i wanna set up a decent tank for them - i was thinking 2 pea puffers would be ok in the 10g, but if not let me know
 
dwarfpuffers.com is a great resource for dwarf puffers. My LFS is ordering some for me, I told them I just wanted 1, but they are going to start stocking them, apparently the fact I couldn't find them anywhere was good motivation for them, haha. That site even has plants listed so you can set up a biotype. 2 may be ok in a 10, but it depends on the invidual fish. Bioload wise it should be ok, but temperment may be an issue. If you can get a M/F combination, that should help allivate that. As will plenty of plants to break line of site. My set up for is a 5 gallon, with play sand, drift wood Crypt Wendetti, dwarf hair grass and a aponogeton bulb I'm hoping will grow.
Make sure your tank is fully cycles before adding you puffers, they won't make it through a cycle.
 
I've had a trio in a 10 gallon without a problem- 1 m, 2 f. However, from a LFS, they may be too small to sex. You would probably be ok with 2, as long as there are hiding spots and plants.

A heavily planted tank is the best option, something with hiding spots will make them feel comfortable. Substrate shouldn't matter.

I've successfully kept DPs with otos and pygmy cories.

They like live food best- I breed pond snails for mine, you can get pond snails for cheap or even free. Smaller ones are better, they're easier to eat. Mine will also eat frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp.

ETA: they also comonly have internal parasites. The first 2 I got died, I'm pretty sure that's why. they should have nice, fat tummies. If they're not, and they're not eating, you should treat for IP.
 
Ahh cool ill check out that site, my LFS had some and sold out im waitin for them to get more as i havent seen them anywhere else around me either - ill do some homework and hopefully can find a m/f combo
Ill definately cycle first, i found a couple cheap 10g setups on CL so i plan on picking one up soon and ill take some filter media from my 55g to help get a cycle going and wait for that to do its thing
