A medium-sized Spiney Eel, M. aculeatus isn't as commonly seen as the larger Tire Track or Fire Eel, but has a lot to offer nonetheless. This particular species has a bare light brown body with around four ringed spots on the top of the long dorsal. Spiney Eels are not true Eels but are called so because of the similar appearance.

Reaching a size of around 15" when fully grown, this fish should be kept in a roomy aquarium. As with other Spiney Eels, a fine or sandy substrate is virtually required. They will dig and burry themselves in the sand so that just the heads may be seen. These fish help add another dimension of character to the home aquarium.

Use a neutral to slightly alkaline pH and fairly warm temperature between 75-82 degrees F.

Mastacembelidae

thanks everyone!
how long would I be able to keep him/her in a 29 gal without stunting?

good!
I only got him because this lady was getting it for her daughter's 2.5 gal
(plus the man that was working at the time told me to get it before that lady did :D,they seem to care alot about thier fish).
