Hey everyone..........my Petsmart has these for sale and I was wondering about them. Could I keep one in a 60 gallon tank with corys, angels, mollys, platys, and dwarf gouramis? Are there any benefits to keeping them, or are they just an "odd" fish to have? I've never thought of owning one, but they look so cool! Any info?

i would go with a fire eel because the peacock eel does not get to big... they are every fun to have and have great personality

Fire eels can get to 5 feet, peacocks to just over a foot. I have peacock eels and I love them, they are awesome fish. But they are hunters. I had a lone guppy in the tank and find Dennis one of the eels attached to the poor gups tail. But I've never had any problems with the 4 inch rainbow shark that lives with them so I'd say it just depends on the size of the fish you have.

Peacocks spend most of their time hiding with just their heads sticking out and are very picky eaters, they need fresh, frozen or live food, they wont eat flakes, and if its not live they usually need to be handfed.

I have one in my son's tank. He stays hidden most of the time. He will eat anything I put in the tank. He makes tank-cleaning interesting, but he has not eaten any fish in that tank. They can get to a foot in the wild but you are not likely to see one over 6-8 inches in captivity.

Fire EELs 5 Feet?! what the.... where did u read that? Anyways Peacock eels are great, i have 2 of them they are probably the best hiders out of all eels, I also have a tiretrack and i see him all the time but hte peacocks never. I figure if you want mollies and platies and those type of fish, peacocks would be a better choice over the bigger eels that can eat those fish. Platies might get chomped though by a full grown peacock which to my knowledge reeaches a length of 8"-12". When they are out and about they are fun, at night is best for viewing, i can look at my tank right now and see them all wiggling around, looking for feeder guppies. I have had two eels jump in my filter, one the first day it was here , the other recently and was living there for 1 week :p. Ok i'm rambling...thats all :D Oh and yoru tank is big enough for a peacock :D ENJOY!

I don't actually know if I'll get one.......I was just wanting a review of em. THey only take live food right? I only have flakes and shrimp pellets for my loaches/corys. They just looked really cool and I thought I'd see about em Thanks!

I have two in my 55. They are fun to watch, but will only really eat live blackworms. They're not that interested in FD or frozen food. I do have them trained to eat from my hand though. They're starting to get more and more used to me, to the point that one of them will come twine itself around my fingers whenever I'm "gardening" in the tank.
