Peacock Gudgeon baby questions

Either the eggs hatched or the male ate them. I can't tell because I can't see any fry anywhere... I should have pulled the eggs. !@#$

Lol. This was good practice, I guess. Now I know what to do. How soon until I can start conditioning them for spawning again?
 
I'm probably making this too complicated but how soon after he starts guarding the eggs should I remove the eggs? Because he won't start doing this until after he fertilizes them, right? So by the time he starts fanning them, it's safe to assume that they're fertilized and can be taken away from him?
