I bought some fry off of AB that were not much more than an inch or so long about 3 weeks ago and they are already coloring up. I've been feeding them lots of frozen BW, brine shrimp, etc though.

Either way, I still have several tanks to work with so I have all the time in the world

just a quick update, I now officially have 2 tanks full of free swimmers. I'm going to transfer the new free swimmers over to the other tank as soon as I am sure they are eating something.

Haha, when they get a little bigger, my camera doesn't do macro well, and its a good thing because these tanks are definitely not pleasing to look at.

I don't know how fast these grow. The ones I purchased as juveniles seemed to grow/color up in just a few months, so hopefully I can start to see some color on them within 3 months. I can fairly reliably sex them as soon as they get color on their anal fin, but apparently this is still hit and miss depending on the strain variants.

It appears that the males don't develop the nice nuchal hump and long finnage until they are nearly full grown. At least that's how my stock has done so far, if it changes I will update.

I feed only the best high quality stuff, and with these guys in particular, they get a lot of protein, so they are growing at a noticeable pace.

So soon, yes, how soon, IDK

And a side note, they appear to be able to be able to take BBS within a day or two of freeswimming.
