Hello again! We are slowly stocking the 20g after all the craziness water is looking good and all the Cory’s are doing well. I planned to add a few more & decided to get another PG to add to the solo one in the tank. Believing the current resident is female ( based on the solid black line and no real hump or “forehead”)
I had the other half swing in and ask for a a male for me.
The LFS ( small town store and tons of variety, far superior to any petsmart or petco ) said they are too young to accurately sex and said he could try but not guarantee. I was unaware they looked similar when young.
When I see this fish I see a dark line on the bottom fin and a streamlined head. My initial reaction is I have two females. What do you think?
I wasn’t interested in breeding just pairing up my single one in the tank so it would be happier.
So that leads to the second question. If I have two female, Should I eventually add a male?

I think the hump only develops when fully grown, but the black bar on the anal fin suggests both are females indeed.
Great pictures !

Thanks ( it took forever ) & I am just now noticing I put our still lit Christmas tree on display LOL ?.
we have some Christmas fans around here and Mom can’t win that battle as of yet.

The tank is coming along nicely. I did order the hood and the new filter is in and running with old media plus the sponges are still going.
I did opt to order regular black sand vs the flourish black sand.
( thinking it was softer for the pigmy’s). I plan to rinse & layer it over the substrate I was given with the tank and fish
( I believe it’s sand blasting sand and gravel ). So it will be a mix mash for now :/
I did order regular flourish liquid to use in addition with my tabs.

Nice ornaments. Yeah this one could do with some more substrate, it barely is above the rim.
You win some, you loose some... I'd take the christmas lights over the glow fish ;)

Yeah, your sword needs at least 2 inches...up to 3 inches of substrate & a root tab every 3 months.

I love peacock gudgeons but sadly have never kept them. I kind of think of them as almost dwarf cichlids as for how to keep them...& how to sex them. I'm guessing 2 females.

Good morning guys! I went ahead and ran back down lastnight and I am now the proud owner of 3 peacock gudgeons! I chose one that the black line was thin or thinning. The fins of this fish looked more like the males I seen while researching. Think I did any better than the employee at the LFS ?

If the line fades as they grow out of the juvenile stage then hopefully this guy is a boy. The bottom fin is longer more yellow and being flared to the others. So hopefully ( I also included my reference photo of the males.
