Peacock or Mbuna; I can't decide.

If you mix Peacocks and Mbuna, I'd go with an all male tank. I keep Eureka Peacocks with P. socolofi albinos, C. afra cobue, and Yellow labs. I have 1 left. :( I wish I had never mixed them. I have a 55g tank with alot of rocks and did my research before hand in which people told me it was fine to mix them. Maybe in a tank with Yellow Labs and some other less aggressive Mbuna like Rusty Cichlids they'd be ok with m/f mix.

I just suggest from experience that if you mix them, go with all males.

Bumblebees are the burglars of the cichlid family. I have a bumblee and he turns black goes into a cave takes some food and comes back with his yellow/black coat. a real cat burglar. He is agressive if he's with fish smaller than him. My other cichlids step up to him and really say "dont even mess with me man" in my opinion if they are similar age/size they have been around like a drug dealer who knows the streets. they aren't scared but when you get totally different ages/ different cichlid ages it really can be a nuissance. I do not recommend bumblebees in with tiny fish. hell just beat them up and take their lunch money. and to be honest ive only seen them beat up not really eat, they like to defend and be the big man. Simply put ill move him out if he gets ridicolously out of control. put him in jail with some convicts hmmm whose worse an angry bumblebee or a male black convict ready to mate?
Haha, see my male bumblebee is completely the opposite. He willl display a completely black coat but does not get aggressive. He has never chased or nipped another fish in my tank, even though some are small enough for him to swallow.

I love an all peacock tank.
:iagree: IMO - Stay away from mixing, but its up to you... like you have just read, many people can suscefully get away with it. Personally, I think you should do an all peacock tank :)

So, if I nixed the idea of the Bumblebees but got male and female Electric Yellow, Cobalt Blue, and Red Zebra would one or two male Peacocks be OK? Are Acei more aggressive like a Bumblebee?
Like girliegirl said, I would keep it an all male tank and nix the female lab. Make sure there is plenty of rockwork and caves to hide in. Sounds like a good mix though.

from what i've done, you can mix some peacocks and mbunas.. but it's almost always a gamble. it can be done on an experimental basis. just be careful and keep an eye out.
