ok so im going to have a 55 gallon tank and i want to know well i need advice on peacocks. i have one i stole from petco. well they didnt know what it was and i got him for 2.50. hes a stuartgranti "maleri". hes the showoff of my 55. he hangs with the mbunas and he likes to show off when people look in the tank. i want to find him some females and heres my question. i found a guy in chicago who has some banga sunshies for sale. can i keep the maleri trio and the banga trio in the same tank? my mbuna tank seems to work well bcuz i have ALOT of rock work. lots of caves and such. any advice on peacocks would be appreciated. im askin in here cuz there is so much info out there and it all seems to contradict itself and i dont want to kill abunch of fish.

I would not put the maleri and the banga together if you plan on saving fry. These 2 will breed with each other and your fry will not be pure. So if you have NO plans of distributing fry go ahead, if you want to distribute fry then don't mix them. I don't think the peacocks will do well with the mbuna in the long run, mbuna are way more aggressive.

This may be true; but I'm confused. Are you going to keep the peacocks in a separate tank or with the mbunas? If they are for a peacock only tank, having at least 4 females/1 male of each species, may help to avoid crossbreeding; but you can't be 100% sure. If they are going to be with the mbunas, what mbuna species do you have? The only mbunas I would keep with peacocks are yellow labs and aceis.

I agree with Bre001 here. I wouldn't mix Mbuna with Peacocks. Even if you go with Labs male Peacocks often confuse them for females and will chase/ harrass them to death.
