I'm pretty sure I'm able to tell the sexes of my two strawberry peacocks. One male & one female, atleast one is very colorful w/ egg spots, & the other is plain & a very dull color. They are about 2.5" each & around 8 months old... if I were to seperate them, would they be ready to breed yet? or are they still immature?
Also fairly new to african's & haven't looked much up, does my set up I have listed below in tank:2 sound like a problem? I plan on removing the peacocks to try a species tank. They're all currently in a 55g. & the peacocks will be going to a 20g Long, I believe that should be enough.

A Peacock breeding tank should be no less than 40 gal and there should ideally be a ratio of 3 females to 1 male. Male Peacocks become very aggressive while in bredding mood and may harm 1 female, especially in cramped quarters such as a 20 gal.
Your tank is over/ improperly stocked. The Venustus will end up being a large fish of 10" or so. I wouldn't keep more than one by itself in a 55. The Frontosa gets even larger than Venustus and is a peaceful Tanganyikan cichlid, best kept in a tank with it's own kind and other slow, non boisterous fish. Not a good candidate for a 55.
I would recommend rehoming everything but the Peacocks, and make this tank a Peacock tank. You could add other smaller Aulonocara or Haplochromines.

x 3 - lets have this over in the rift lake forum in any event.
