PEAT, have you used it?

I am trying to soften my water, and want to know anything on peat.
I was only able to obtain coir peat and coco peat.
Are these any good? they dont contain any fertilisers.

That may work. Normally people use sphagnum peat, but googling "coir peat" I saw some places saying that for gardening applications it's an alternative. I don't know how it would work in an aquarium.

i haven't used it yet, but i bought peat from the bird section of a pet store, they use it for nesting. if it's safe for birds i figure it will be safe for fish.

coir and coco will naturally contain salts. shouldn't be enough to worry about and will surely be stripped fairly quickly in an aquarium.

Those coir and coco are fine. Some people use them for hydroponic systems in their koi ponds.

absolutely lupin. i've even seem people use it for a soil layer in their substrate. it looked as if it worked out well. i was just in the spirit of full disclosure as many folks have no idea it contains salt and some people go out of their way to avoid salt altogether.

get some SERA super peat,,, works awesome,, not mess,, no prep,, put in filter bag and drop in filter good to go,,its what i use,,
