I used to have so much fun catching those guys when I was younger in the creek behind my house. My tool of choice was an empty peanut butter jar. I'd position the jar behind him and then move the lid towards him from the front.

Didn't seem to be a hit w/the plecos I guess because my tanks are so heavily planted, and they are still babies.
