A Penn-Plax Cascade filter came with my new 90 gallon tank. Has anyone every used one of these? What do you think? I have always bought AquaClears in the past but I think they can get a little noisey.

Cascade 100 filter noisy

I set up a Cascade 100 power filter yesterday (brand new) and it is noisy, it's either the impeller or the motor. Tonight I will take it apart and see if I can quiet it down.

Any ideas on whether constant noise/vibrations bother fish?

i have the same filter but in 200gph size for hte past 2 months

never had a problem, so quiet than i cant tell if its running or not

Returned Cascade 100

The Cascade 100 never did quiet down. I disassembled and cleaned the impeller area three times but no improvement. Finally, after three days of lots of noise I took it back to my local LFS and got a refund. I got an AC Mini instead and am quite happy with it.

PredatorFish, how did your Cascade Filter work out?

I have a Cascade 80 in my 10 gallon hex tank. IMO, it's not a bad little filter. Mine's not noisy, but because of the depth of the hex tank, I need 2 extension intake tubes which are kind of hard to get (they're on order and have been for about 3 weeks).

I have never had a problem with it. :)
