I've heard a lot of opinions about cannister filters in here but I've never heard a review on the PennPlax Cascade Cannister series.

I did a search on this and there were some good reviews but with questions regarding longevity. Now those threads are two years old! Does anyone have any updates/experience/opinions on these filters?
 
I have the 1000 on my 55 gallon. Its very quite, never have a problem with it. Only thing is that it cant keep up with my current stock. I am doing gravel vacs 3 times a week! I bet if I added 2 more to the tank it would be fine, but I am upgrading in a month or so, so that would be pointless. Good filter though, id buy them again.
 
LOL, you're right, sometimes NO news is GOOD news. I just think it's wierd that a LFS guy is using them on every one of his tanks and just raves about them. Then I come in here and only a handful of people have ever even used them...or so it seems. Anyway, if I do get one, I'll be sure to do a review for yall.

I use a Cascade 1000 on a 75 gallon with SA and CA cichlids in conjunction with a couple of Emperors. My boss gave it to me brand new! I've been impressed with the amount of water that it moves. It's not as quiet as my Fluval or Rena, but that's ok. I haven't used an Eheim, so I can't compare, but I know they are seriously top-notch.

My biggest problem with the Cascade was getting it primed! I actually posted a thread about it because I thought mine was defective. I pushed the prime button like a million times, and then I finally just had to open it up and fill it with water to get it to work. Once it gets going, though, it's pretty powerful IMO.
 
I like Cascade canisters...easy to use, quiet, reliable (I have had several running for 2-3 years with no problems).
