people food for fish

Was the salmon cooked or raw? Fish respond much differently to cooked food than raw sometimes.

when i had an oscar we used to feed any insect, he ate earthworms, flies, anything we'd put in the tank, ham slices, and when id go to the pond id catch minnows and he'd chase them around. My silver dollar is supposed to be a herbivor but they love blood worms. Im going to try lettuce matter next, i heard that was okay for them. Any vegi matter u feed the fish, make sure u rinse them throughly in declhor water.

With the fd tubifex worms do you just toss the entire cube into the tank? Or do you put it in water first and just pick some out and put them in the tank? If so do you just toss what you don't feed them or freeze them or what? I've wanted to get these to mix up my fish's diet. Right now I only feed tropical flakes/granules. Then I suppliment with fd bloodworms and for the cories I have sinking wafers. I've really been looking for food that will mix it up and possibly give them a better nutritional diet. I only feed once a day.

Thanks,
Curtis

90% lean beef burger or beef heart is much better than liver. Never feed cooked food to them, it breaks down much too fast in the water and will foul it quickly. Tetra Colorbits are a good staple flake food, but food you can make like the recipe I listed are much healthier for the fish than anything you can buy.

Hi Aric,
It was raw. I don't think it was processed but perhaps there was too much salt in it naturally?

With the cubed freeze dried tubifex worms I just break some off the cube and put it in the tank, the remainder of the cube just goes back in the jar/container. Being freeze dried they will soak up moisture pretty readily, so make sure you keep the container sealed (i ussually keep one of those silica gel capsules you find in vitamin bottles in the container also).

Would recommend getting some shrimp pellets (use the Wardley ones myself) if you want something to mix things up. I ussually put a couple in my tank at evening feed. Ussually one of the bottom feeders will find one, within a minute the entire community will catch on and be hanging around, bottom feeders all trying to muscle in and everyone else eating all the shimp pellet debris being kicked up. It's quite an interesting sight, 3 corys, 3 kuhli loaches, 3 clown loaches, a rainbow shark, a bristlenose cat, 14 tetras, 2 cherry barbs and 2 juvinile electric yellows all trying to muscle in on the shimp pellet particles at once.

I also have a plastic clothespin which I attatched a suction cup to, I ussually secure a slice of cucumber which has had a quick cook in the microwave in that. I leave it in the tank for a few days as ussually the fish don't pay much attention to it until it's looking a little brown.

fish fry will eat the yellow part of a hard-boiled egg- dissolved in lots of water so that you have a toothpaste like substence. put very small pieces in water as if too much gets uneaten, its messes w/ the water parameters

The cubes break easily. I break the cube into the size I wish to feed and toss it into the tank. Like anything else, you don't wnat to overfeed. I put what I'm not feeding back into the container.
