They really caught me by surprise. I don't have a rearing tank or anything, so I don't expect a huge survival rate, but if I get more than one or two that make it, I'll certainly have to share them with someone! If I can get a rubber maid tub set up with a sponge filter and heater by the time they're big enough to transfer, I will probably be begging people to take some.

Lol if that happens count me in for two!

He's beautiful! Striking contrast colors! You'll have to post some more pics when those babies make their appearence. You mentioned that the mom is still in the tank??? I thought you had to remove the female after she layed her eggs, or is it different with wild caught? Wouldn't she be a danger to the babies when they drop from the bubble nest?

Wilds are a bit different. If I were to set up for breeding, I suppose I would do it like domestic Betta splendens. As it is though, I keep mom and pop in the tank. The tank is pretty heavily planted, and I'm counting on some leaf litter and driftwood to provide some infusoria for first food. Seems to have worked, as I see at least a half dozen survivors after more than a week. Would guess there are probably more hiding in the plants. The bubble nest is gone, but the male still chases the female halfheartedly from his side of the tank. I've also seen mom suck in some fry that ventured over to her side, and spit them into her corner.

Couple pics of mom. She's lost her breeding colors, but still a pretty fish!
