Perfecto Aquariums: Opinions?

I bought an Perfecto 90 gallon with the hardwood perfecto stand and I have a 20 year warranty. It is true that to get the 20 year warranty you must have the perfecto stand with the tank. The warranty is on any tank 65 gallons or larger. The card I have says that without the stand the tank only has a 90 day warranty.

When I went to buy my tank a buddy filled my head with stuff like Perfecto tanks were garbage so I ordered an All-Glass tank. When the tank and stand came in it was a Perfecto and I was mad. I told the woman that I didn't want the tank and went to another store. At the second store they had both tanks in stock but the guy assured me that the Perfecto and the All-Glass were the same quality and that the Perfecto came with the better warranty. Needless to say I went back and bought the Perfeto off the first store and it is great. The biggest difference to me and the part I like the best is that unlike the All-Glass stand the perfecto has a lip all the way around for the tank to actually sit into. The All-Glass stand doesn't have it and the tank just sits on top of the stand. It might not make a difference but I like the way the tank is secured in and can't move in the Perfecto stand.

(Noblesville, IN) -Perfecto Manufacturing, Inc, is pleased to announce that beginning January 1, 1999 all aquariums 65 gallons and larger purchased with a Perfecto aquarium stand will carry a 20-year warranty from the date of purchase. Additionally, all aquariums between 16 gallon and 60 gallon will be warranted for 5 years. Aquariums 15 gallons and below will retain the standard 90-day warranty.

My though is that the price of the stands are close to the price of the tanks. So if the tank breaks, I'll just buy another with the savings from not buying the stand. And probably a different brand.

I've got several Perfectos (mostly 75s and a 55) and I find their construction to be good. None of them are on Perfecto stands, but I don't buy tanks for their warranty. If a tank doesn't leak the first time you fill, how likely is it to spring a leak later? Of course, if you put any tank on a junky stand, you're asking for trouble....

I'd just as soon get a fairly inexpensive, yet functional tank than spend twice as much for a better warranty. I always lose my sales receipts anyway...

i have a perfecto 220gallon and a perfecto 150 gallon and a 5' 120 they are great tanks i see no difference from them and my AGA tanks. my 220 and the 120 have a 20 year warrenty. the 150 is older i do not know the warrenty on it. i have a AGA 6' 120 gallon that is 15 years old and looks brand new and i also have a 55gallon perfecto that is about 10 years old that looks new as well. All of me new tanks are perfecto because i get a better price on them from my supplier. i dont see any reason to go with the more expensive oceanic. All of the new tanks are built well and you shouldnt have any problems. a tank is a tank, as long has you stick to one of the name brands like AGA, perfecto, and oceanic get which ever is priced best for you and have fun with it.
 
I have bought a 55g Perfecto aquarium from Walmart (in Canada) for CDN $300 (~US$200) along with the stand. Well, it did come with two measly 18" 15W lights. I have bought a twin tube 48" strip light (also by Perfecto) that fits the hood from Big Al's for another CDN $200 and I think that's about it.

Similar setups cost about $700-$1500 at LFSs... Unless I'm missing something, I think I got a farly good deal.
 
I've had my eye on a 90g AGA for some time. Built a DIY stand and hood around the measurements off it. Then, my LFS of choice gets a Perfecto in and a good price to boot. While measuring, I noticed the Perfecto frame (plastic around the top and bottom) is thinner (distance it sticks out from the glass) but is wider (covers more of the glass from the top down and bottom up respectfully). Also, the center brace on the Perfecto takes up less space than the AGA, which I like b/c it will block less light. As far as I'm concerened, I'm with AikidoGuy..."a tank is a tank."
 
yeah as long as its one of the reputable brands you should not run into any problems as long its set nice and level and taken care of properly.
 
I currently have a 75g perfecto that came with tank, glass tops, 48" strip light, emp 400 filter, 300w heater, etc for 200 dollars from lps, it is a beautiful tank and is doing great things for me
 
The only thing I don't like about perfecto is that they are tempered all the way aroung, my friend bought a 120 perfecto and when we went to drill it it shattered in a million tiny pieces :sad:

always a good note to figure out what your trying to cut before you go out and do it.
