I got a pair of peruvian rams a little while ago, and they seem the enjoy staying at the bottom of the tank, its a 75 gallon, and right now theres 13 rummynose,6 guppies, a pleco and these 2 rams. I use flake food but all the guppies and rummies grab it before the Rams even have a chance to notice its there. What should I do? Ive never tried frozen or live food before but im willing to give it a try.

You can add sinking wafers for the rams to pick at during the day. And when you feed flakes push some beneath the surface so some will make it to the bottom before being eaten by the others.

Rams love many frozen and live foods. I feed mine frozen or live Daphnia, frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp.

You can target feed Rams using an eyedropper or turkey baster with some live or frozen food inside and squirtiing it down near the Ram. They should quickly learn to associate the eyedropper with food and come right up to it ready to devour anything that comes out.

Definitely second the wafer idea. My ram loves Hikari sinking wafers. You can also try feeding pellets instead of flakes. They'll sink but it will be slower than the wafers and your tetras and guppies will be able to partake as well.

Peruvian rams??

Mikrogeophagus (Papiliochromis)Altispinosa(Bolivian Ram)
Mikrogeophagus(Papiliochromis) Ramirezi(Blue Ram)

to date these are the only known species of dwarf rams.

I do believe both are found in the Orinco Valley ..and that may include many of the south american countries.

how you take care of them will differ between the two specie.
the bolivians tend to be hardier and can tolerate cooler water temps up to 80 but preference for 78ish. the Blue Ram usually is more sensitive and favors warm water (82-86f)
both will inhabit the lower half of your tank.both are entertaining.
the bolivian is larger and the blue is more colorful.

I have bolivian rams and they like the sinking pellets(small) they do have relatively small mouths.
if you have aggressive feeders(Bolivians will come to the top to feed on occassion) try feeding the aggressive feeders to one side of the tank and drop pellets in away from the others..the ram s will forage for them.

thanks for the tips guys! I guess they are bolivian then, what the guy had labeled as bolivian seemed a little different than these though

Yes, I bought some frozen foods today, frozen blood worms and an omnivore mix, the blood worms sank to the bottom and the tetras and guppies loved them, they were literally falling on the rams heads and they just sat there likenothing was happening, they picked one or two off the gorund and ate them but didnt seem to interested, i guess theyll just take care of themselves
