Pet Peeve: The Correct Spelling is "Detritus"

I hate it when people can't pronounce simple words like:

PNEUMONOULTRAMICROSCOPICSILICOVOLCANOCONIOSIS

and

FORMALDEHYDETETRAMETHYLAMIDOFLUORIMUM

Oh, and I also hate when people say the want to travel to Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Yuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit when they can't even spell or pronounce Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Yuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit.

My pet peeve, Is people telling me No, when I am trying to explain something, that they have no Idea about! EXAMPLE, ...

Dogs, notably Staffordshire terriers, prefer one person in a household....(PERSON BUTS IN) NO...and proceeds to tell me of their cousins cousin, who has one that loves every person in the house equally the same... This is just an example, but Boy does it get my goat!

I HATE when people spell dominant as "dominate"

"my pit bull is really dominate"

UGH

I hate it when people go through and post "wow" "looks good" "nice job" "update please" in forums other than the photo forum just for the simple fact of raising their post count. Not only is it childish but those of us looking to help people have to search through all these crap posts just to find threads where people need answers.

My pet peeve is Canada's Animal cruelty laws are not tough enough!

My biggest pet peeve is when I'm watching American television like I was watching Glen Beck the other day when buble was on and it said he was from Burnaby, Canada. I wanted too :rant2: I see it all the time, where's the province? It should be Burnaby, BC, Canada. I'm sorry but yeah it's my biggest pet peeve when american tv chooses to look dumb espcially when they have Canadian viewers and it happens on more then one occasion.

ohh and another pet peeve is improper grammer I know mine is not correct all the time nor is anybody elses but if I'm reading an essay or a students work it drives me nuts. Even notes passed during class. lol drives me insane! I drove my best friend up the wall.

and when guys on the bus think it's okay to spread there legs out wide enough to take up two seats! :hitting:

DON'T USE CAPS UNLESS YOUR HOUSE IS ON FIRE!

I have alot of the same pet peeves, too. I have been guilty of the betta vs beta spelling error. :)

I just wanted to point out the "detritus" thing because it's a commonly used term here and many people have trouble with it. My pet peeve isn't really misspelling, but it's the spreading of misinformation.

Along the same lines, anyone can sign up on these forums and state their opinions as facts. I hate when others read those statements and then repeat what they've read as fact when they really have no experience or definite knowledge of the topic being discussed. That very thing has costed me money, time, and headaches quite a bit. It's why I usually say "I've read that... such and such" unless it's something I've actually seen and know to be truth.

I used to have arguments with my ex about "color" vs "colour." I'm American and he's English. Color is how it's spelled in America. To me, "colour" looks more French.

Funny thread..

I have more and more trouble with spelling simple words as I grow older. That's why I have dictionary.com bookmarked. :)

Words like "grammar" and "betta" will trip me up sometimes, but they aren't words I spell on a regular basis. :) There's really no excuse for misspelling words like your, you're, there, their, to, and too habitually other than simple laziness.

i also hate it when people spell hamster as "hampster"..
