pet stores in your area

In my area of Los Angeles, most places that sell fish are Fish only or fish and reptile. The only place that sells everythign are Petco and Petsmart.

All the fish stores have gone down hill in the past 5 years. Competition from Petco and Petsmart and the online supply shops probably killed their ability to make money.

I visit two stores that I would consider fish stores in my area, The Pet Shanty and Ocean Gallery II

I managed to visit the pet shanty this weekend.. I was in the office and it's only 20 mins down the road so I figured I'd take a quick peek.

Now all I need to do is wait till I have an empty tank or 2 and take another trip out there.. I guess that's what I risk by window shopping..


now to find other stores that are close enough.

my favorite is called orcutt aquariums and its is completely dedicated to fish. It has high quality fish and crawdads. I love it.

I prefer fish specialty store over the chains, my thing with pet store is knowledge readily available the species they have and how clean they keep their tanks. Also, if they do special order if they don't have what you are looking for. I have two fantastic fish only petstore here. 1 mom and pop that I would buy filtration, supplies from just cheaper price than the big chains like Petco and Petsmart(yes they are here also)
