Thanks for the heads up on this, I ended up going and grabbing the 40 breeder I've had on my list for a while. Ran into my dad and my brother buying a 29g for his newt while I was there. The 40 is going to sit for a while (I have a 29, a 5, and a 10 to set up first) but for $40 instead of $110, it can sit in my office for a while. 
Aside:
The stands they sell for the 40 breeders are flipping scary. The tank rim rests on the narrow edge of a 1x4 or something of that nature. Sure when it's full it weighs 400lbs, but I don't trust that. I think I may build my own stand for this one, unless the LFS has a decent deal on 40 breeder stands.

PetSmart has 40 breeders including glass tops and a light strip for $127 (I think it's a sale, too). Anybody know of a cheaper top/lighting solution including the $40 PetCo tank? Pricing it out separately, I'm still working out to about what PetSmart is charging for the package. Uhg, I DON'T need another tank... but they're so cheap!
Make the top yourself or have a local hardware store or glass/plastic company cut it. You're not going to get a decent light (at least for live plants) with a 40g tank and a top for $130 imo, so if you want live plants i wouldn't factor that into the cost. If you just want a basic light, thatpetplace has 48" lamps in the $60-70 range, but you could probably get cheaper on ebay or a hardware store. The petsmart deal may still be cheaper than the petco $40 tank though, if you don't care about growing plants.
