WHY does PetCo have a salt tub in EVERY SINGLE fish tank in their store?? I canNOT understand how every type and species of fish can tolerate this. They even have salt tubs in their goldfish and SNAIL tanks. WTH? Every Friday it infuriates me to see new tubs in all the tanks. Ugh.

I wondered that too as the same thing goes on in my petco. It used to be done only in the molly and other livebearer tanks. I'm guessing that they're using it to treat/prevent ich?

I have no idea. I talked to one girl who worked there and she said, "Oh the fish love it. They swim over and some of them even lay in the salt tub." She didn't indicate it was for preventative purposes, but that it was just part of their regular routine.

It amazes me that a pet store with an "aquatics expert" doesn't have even the most basic clue about fishkeeping. An internet using 10 year old knows more than any of them do. It's insane.

Ive never seen any salt in the tanks at the local petco or another of the others I have visited.

well no duh, but like whats the purpose is what i really mean.

That's the question. It serves no purpose, so I wonder myself, what's it there for? The biggest problem I can see with it is that customers come in there and buy freshwater fish and put them in a tank at home without salt, causing major distress. Like there's not enough issues with most people's tanks.

I'm glad I wasn't born a fish.
