I hear there is an upcoming $1/gallon sale at Petco however I have read mixed reviews on their Tetra tanks. Any thoughts on these tanks? Also, does anyone know if Pet Supplies Plus will match the sale?

In terms of quality, they're both the same; Aqueon vs. Tetra (Marineland). Central Garden and Pet makes Aqueon. United Pet Group makes Tetra.

I know there's been discussions in the past where Aqueon or Tetra slaps the $1/gal tanks together specifically for this sale, but I've never found any info to support that. I've special ordered tanks through my local fish store and they're just as potentially sloppy as the $1/gal tanks.

they are good tanks.bought them a few times and am gonna buy 4 new 10 gallon tanks this sundae at the start of the sale.they are not bad tanks,i would say about the same.

My old 40B is a $1/gallon tank. All silicone is nice and neat. My 20L tank is a $1/gallon tank. One side has messy silicone, the other has nice and tidy silicone.

Just take a peek at the tank to make sure the silicone is nice, no cracks, no chips, etcetera.

Yep, given quality control can be sketchy on standard, store bought tanks, it's best to give them a good look-over. When you get into the bigger, high dollar tanks (bigger than 75g), those don't seem to be plagued with sloppy silicone, or shifted panels quite as bad as the 75 and under crowd.

Just curious if any of your 29g Tetra tanks bow? The Aqueon I have does not bow but the Tetra does. Maybe it is just me but I prefer the Aqueon tanks as they feel more sturdy even though they are heavier. I want to pick up a 40 breeder but would hate for it to bow. Silicone is fine as I tend to check the silicone before purchasing.

I believe the 40 breeder has a tempered glass bottom, 55g is all tempered, and 10g, 20g, and 29g are not, in case you need to drill the tank.

Funny you should mention that.. The only 29g I had was a Petsmart Top-Fin kit tank and it was a black siliconed Teta/Marineland tank. It bowed and ultimately cracked on me. This was 2yrs ago. The frames on Aqueon 55 and 75s are bigger/bulkier than those on the Tetra/Marineland tanks I've seen. Not sure on the smaller ones.

Yes.

Tetra tanks are thinner glass than Aqueon tanks on some sizes. Also the Tetra 10 gallons are slightly narrower than the Aqueon 10 gallons.
