I usually don't buy from Petco but this time I found a plant I relly like. Does anyone know if petco is selling hairgrass or Mondo grass and calling it hair grass.
From what I have seen, all the Petco's are different. Each one of them will have different plants and usually they have no idea what they are called when you ask them, which is why I don't buy from them.....They have no business in aquatics whatsoever besides selling the corporate products such as food, filter media, etc.
Mondo grass needs to be emerged. It can usually survive with the roots submerged, but the majority of the plant needs to be out of the water. Mondo grass is much bigger than hair grass and is pretty easy to tell the difference.
I have bought plants from them, but will never buy from them again. My first experience wasn't bad. Plants were ok. My second time I had a bad outbreak of velvet which almost killed all of my bristle nose plecos and got several of my other fish.
In reality though, when you buy plants from anyone anywhere, even here, you take a chance of introducing something. Could I have taken steps to prevent this like quarantining? Sure, but I didn't and payed the price.
