Petco Malaysian Trumpet Snails infestation

The PetCo store in Germantown, Maryland has a Malaysian Trumpet Snail (MTS) infestation problem.

I spent the afternoon visiting local fish stores around the Washington DC Metro area for these snails until I arrived at a particular PetCo. Since PetCo doesn't sell MTS, the manager just gave me about 20 or so of the snails for free. :headbang2:

I'm pretty sure there are still hundreds of the snails still sitting in the store for those interested.

most lfs will give you the free snails like that. call it good will.

Every petsmart/petco I've been to have MTS in their tanks.

This was the 6th PetCo/PetSmart/LFS I went to find the MTS. The other PetCos and PetSmarts in the area usually have only the non-MTS snails.

They don't have MTS to sell, but they do have them in their tanks. Just buy a plant, you'll get some...I did.

You probably don't even have to buy the plants. Just ask if you can pick at the snails or if they can do it for you. You won't have to pay for anything you didn't want that way Although... if you're interested in the plant AND snail, then of course you should just buy it. Wouldn't hurt to ask for more though

All the MTS I've been getting on my plants have a broken tip. It looks really awful, so I've just been throwing them out.

Our LFS (not a chain) has 50-100 in almost every tank.

You probably don't even have to buy the plants. Just ask if you can pick at the snails or if they can do it for you.

I've heard a lot of people say that they won't give or sell them the snails, knowingly...which is the case for me.

i got mine by accident, the shopkeep was trying to get the fish but he accidentaly got some gravel and i found 2 of them in with the fish
