petco!

Luckily, the petco near me is considerably better... They qt their fish when they arrive and if they have any sicknesses, and don't sell them in that condition.

I was at my local PetCo the other dayt and struck a conversation with one of the employees. I don't think she was from the fish section, more like she was looking at the fish while business was slow. She then preceded to describe her 10 gallon tank. She had 2 of those little catfish, a pleco, 4 guppies, and like 4 koi. She may have mentioned more, but I forget. Now even I know that tank is overstocked. So I say to her "Uh....isn't a 10 gallon a little too small for all those?"

"Yeah, I'll be moving them to a 20 gallon tank later, when they get bigger."

:thud:

thats way overstocked. koi get to be like 3 sometimes 4 feet long. theres no way they could live in a 10g. i think anyone knows that.

i think that when we come up against a situation like that, we should always talk to the person. i mean, what are they going to do, get mad? so what? you'll probably never see them again. even if they don't follow your advice, they will remember what you if for no other reason than some stranger telling you how to take care of your tank is unique.

eh, i think we all tend to over assume what people know. i always think, "well of course people know that you can't put two male bettas together, they're siamese fighting fish" but obviously many people don't realize it. you go to the store and see 25 baby koi in a tank and say to yourself, well if all of those can fit in there, i'm sure a couple can fit in my tank. also, too many people believe that "a fish won't grow any bigger than the tank it is in".
