Maybe, but with the water pouring through it, a fish might get stuck lengthwise against the slots....he'd have a hard time breaking away....

A way to do it would be to have a place sectioned off (no fish allowed) right before the "waterfall" so the pressure of the water moving is less strong.

I always thought if the bottom and top "cubes" were glued together, drilling the tanks with a hole big enough to pass through would be cool... fish could be swept downstream, but they'd still be able to get back into the tall tank via the bottom...

If you drilled holes you wouldn't have any waterfalls. The holes would allow the water to flow at will and would be level in all compartments. Actually I don't think many fish would go over anyway. Fish may not think, but they do sense danger and keep away from it most of the time. Ever notice that they seem to know what a net is?...lol

Just cut slits in the top like an overflow box. It would work the same way I think.
