petsmart GBRs

I have yet to see them in my local Petsmart.
I have three beautiful one's from a local breeder that i found on AC.
2 females and 1 male.IMHO they are the most beautiful fresh water fish in the whole world! I will keep an eye out for them .I don't need any but it would be nice just to look at them from a different source.Good luck with the one's you select. My success with them comes from the fact that my breeder and i have the same local water source,ph and temp. Not to mention a fully planted tank with lots of hiding places. ;-)

They're apart of the "special buy" program that PetSmart recently rolled out.. 6~7 difference species are rotated in and out every 3 months to introduce a bit of variety.

My petsmart has bolivians, but not GBR's. I happened to see them this past weekend for the first time. Never seen rams there before. If my 40 gal were empty, I'd have picked up some bolivians, but that will have to wait for now. :) I have big plans for that breeder tank once the pond is done and the goldfish are moved into the pond. :D

What?! I will have to check to see if mine is doing the same thing when I go in to get crickets tomorrow.

I know the manager of one of the local petsmarts here, and many times they get in what they call "opportunity" fish. The petsmart I go to has had things as cool as ornate bichirs in. I don't think any chain pet store should carry any fish that get above 12" to be honest. But the eithics and morals stores and their employs have is a whole different subject to talk about.

Most of the ones in my area will lecture You on large fish when You buy them. Like "Now You know this Oscar is going to need 55 gallons or more as an adult right? They grow fast and really messy fish". At least that's what they told me, even though I was well aware. I've also had them talk a buddy of mine out of buying a Green Terror, as he wanted to buy it to go with a breeding pair of cons.

Another thing about Petsmart is that they actually carry tanks large enough for their fish, unlike Wal-mart where You can buy Oscars and RBP's but only a 30 gallon tank.... :rant2:

I saw 5 new ones that just came in, brought them all home. Also found a huge crypt plant for just $3! I nearly fainted, since you guys ask for so much. But that's normal, I think someone just messed up at Petsmart, lol.

I also saw some driftwood with java ferns and crypts on them for sale for decent prices (less than $10). Small pieces of driftwood, but still - nice. :) No $$ for that now, but might check it out again down the line.

Petsmart seems to have regional fish suppliers. In my area we don't see the same stuff as others get. I have noticed the kubotai loaches have dropped in price down from $20 to $10 or 11, & on sale this week/month for $5.50. Tiny babies but still tempting. I only gave the fish a quick look though as I'm probably moving but it's nice to see they're getting more realistic prices & more variety. Chains are the only choice for local fish for many people.

Thankfully, shipping fish is becoming more and more commonplace, and without any price fluffing, it can be economical as well. I can ship a group of small fish almost anywhere in the country for around 10 dollars give or take. Small businesses and home breeders are where it's at for quality + good prices.
