okay guys, so today i went to my lfs which is a petsmart in search of a halfmoon betta. they didnt have any. i checked another two stores, they didn't have any either. the last store i checked was a petsmart. i asked an employee who was about 15 yrs old if they had half moons. he said that petsmarts dont have halfmoons. i told him that i thought that lots do. he said that only petsmarts in the US have them and ones in canada don't. then he laughed at me and said that i would have to go to a breeder. do i? and are there any petsmarts in canada that do stock them? thxxx

my Petsmart doesn't carry them either, at least not in the past 5 years I have been there. He was probably just telling you that to end the conversation. Just get out the phone book and start calling around. good luck, they are very beautiful bettas.
The best looking bettas that I've seen were at a non-chain pet store. Maybe there are some in your area. Just use a google map search. I put in "fish store" or "aquarium" plus my zip code and tons come up.

my walmart carries them. But I would be very very careful with that. Make sure that you pick it up on the day that they get them in... because they go down hill fast there. My local petco's carry them too.
Unless you have a good reason for being so enthusiastic about buying from Petsmart and Walmart, try to get a betta from a LFS. Usually healthier fish if not better prices.
