petsmarts- betta fish opinions pls?

the betta, whereabouts are you located in canada? Im asking because I am a fewllo canadian! Petland will carry halfmoons at about $20 a pop, as well as big als, but bigs als halfmoons will take a chunk out of your pocket! literally!
Or I can help you find a breeder around you as I know a few in some provinces

I've seen some great looking Halfmoons (platinum colors and dragon bettas) for about $10.99 at my LFS. I'm so tempted to get another betta but they don't live as long as I'd like them to.

I haven't seen Halfmoons in PetSmarts but I've seen many at PetCo.

I've gotten some beautiful halfmoons at my local petco too, and they're all relatively small so they're good for breeding. Some don't sell them though. I would call your independent LFS and PETCOs before ordering online, since shipping charges are very high... especially considering most halfmoon bettas on aquabid come from overseas.

No petsmarts carry them, but petco does. Petsmart only has females, males, and crowntails. In the 2 1/2 years i've worked for petsmart i've never seen any HM.

The best places to buy Bettas are Chinese LFS. They don't seem to really know about Betta prices, and I've gotten a Delta Tail Betta for a buck.

Unless you have a good reason for being so enthusiastic about buying from Petsmart and Walmart, try to get a betta from a LFS. Usually healthier fish if not better prices.

Ok, I don't know about Canada but in my area, Petco, Petsmart and Walmart are the only LFS that survived the recession. My very fav LFS that had been open for 25 years went belly up very early on. :wall:
