PetSmart's upcoming opportunity fish..

I love that a place that will sell what ever to who ever with no regard actually carries fish that get bigger then most people can handle.
I saw a giant gourami that was at least 18".
And good luck with those Siamese algae eaters actually being Crossocheilus siamensis.
that is why i was hoping it was the little giant gourami, a cousin of the dwarf gourami, that has the same basic coloration but gts 2 inches bigger.

the way to tell is that a false SAE will have a yellow/orangish stripe along its body, while the true SAE will not.

The giant gouramis turned out to be the little giant gouramis (aka the banded gouramis). The tag says they only get 4 inches.

it would also be good to see them carry schwartz's corydoras again instead of giant gouramis (unless they are the mini-giant gouramis, very like dwarf gouramis, just 2 inches bigger)

Those would be thick-lipped colisa fasciata. They are really great fish. Much more peaceful, but yes they do look a lot like a super-sized dwarf. About 2-3 times as big. A much better fish in my opinion. It's a shame they aren't readiy available in the hobby like dwarves are.

Also, the true SAE's black bar goes all the way through the tail, fins are clear with no red, and the scales above the black bar are edged in black giving it a reticulated look as well. It's not really a pretty fish in comparison to the others, like flying foxes, which is probably why the others are important more frequently.

OMG I just went back to work after taking my week-long vacation! While I was really pissed about the state of the store in my absence (yes I cracked a few heads upon my return) I was so excited about our new fish! No rasboras yet, but we got in the White Mickey Mouse Platy's and the Plumetails (which my coworker insists on calling Plumtails...). I hope we the rasboras soon...it will be so hard not to get another tank though, but omg all my outlets are taken so I can't possibly! lol
