pH issues...and im stumped

I'm with amph on the "if it aint broke" those numbers are semi normal. the low mag may be why the corals look weak. have you considered or are you running a sump/fuge if you wanted more PH stabilization you could run cheato with light on an opposite schedule from your DT, plus the mixture of air and water might help. If you've been doing this for years you probably allready knew that, just throwing it out there.
same with surface aggitation.
The other thing i can strongly suggest is reading randy holmes-farley's Low PH causes and cures. here...

calcium alkalinity and PH are tied together, that high of calcium may make it harder to figure out the issue if there is one. I forgot now what your alk was

Thanks for the link ill check it out when I'm home (on my droid at work). The ph has stabalized a bit now droping less. So all seems well. Corals are looking happier in the evening and after a water change or so it should be golden. Oh and I do have a HOB refuge it stays lit 24/7. I just cleaned it yestrtday and replenished the mud (hasn't been done in 8 months). My new concern is our new leopard wrasse. It eats frozen which I a hurdel but it isn still ton shy to come outa the sand. But they can tak some time. The lfs said it took him 2 days to eat so hopefully hell be out when I get home. If so ill add some pics

I believe if you shut your fuge lights off for 6 hours in the middle of the day your PH swing will stabilize and it will give your macro's a chance to rest.

I've never seen significant proff of that making any difference. Even when I tried it years ago on one of my tanks. I've run it 24/7 for over five years and gotten the best results with that. Plus I harvist it often enugh to where I keep a nice organics removal. As for the ph it seems to be staying around 8 in the day and not dropping past 7.92 at night and buffs back out to 8 the next day. Seems to be going well. Corals show more "happiness" as well. My only concern is my new wrasse still not making an aperence and one of my top secret projects with my reef.

The only thing I read from my Marine Water Chemistry book is that having fuge lights on when lights are off in display help maintain PH readings ...

I go through the good PH readings at end of photo periods and low in mornings.....but that is only normal......So it makes sense having a well lighted fuge in the evenings can help keep the PH up the whole time.

your PH swing is very scary...I have not had to deal with that and hope I don't have to. Since there are so many things to go over to fix the root cause.

Maybe I am lucky since my house was built in the 40's ...so co2 concentration is no issue thanks to poor insulation. Plus I dose my tank with C-Balance to...keeping calc and alk in balance.... /crossing fingers

if you ever discover the root cause ...fill us in so we can learn from you.
