Tom - Thanks for all your help here. Things are looking a lot better with a slight cut in CO2. I'll try to get my hands on some appropriate ferts at the weekend; just using Kent Freshwater Plant ATM. Nitrate is OK; PO4 is about 1 ppm according to the water company's analysis.
And they thought you couldn't OD with DIY CO2....
