My pH is at 8 and i am looking to lower it to about 6.5..how do i do this?

a stable pH is best, but if you want to lower it, use dirftwood.

Due to the water I have to work with I've had ph 8 tanks for many years without too many troubles. I have gourami and tetra, etc. With driftwood and normal waste reactions in the tank the ph will gradually drift down.

Chances are your ph is high due to a high Kh. That can be a good thing for a stable Ph and tank...

Driftwood will help, but the only sure-fire way to soften the water and lower the pH in a controllable and safe way is with peat filtration.
