I live out in the country and my landlord has 3 barns out here, so as you can imagine there are several pharaoh cats running around out here. My basement is outside access only and these cats have found their way down there. Now my problem is them using it as their litter box....the smell is coming through my heating vents everytime the heat kicks on, a very strong odor of cat urine fills my house! So, going to go down there to clean it up and find where exactly they are getting in from to close it off...my question is, would it be harmful to through some bleach water around on the cement? I know it is harmful to mix bleach and ammonia so I was kinda worried. The basement is half crawl space that there is really no way I'm going to be able to get into, any advice on getting this smell gone?????

I'm guessing you mean feral cats.

Buy a bunch of those tree looking car deodorizers and hang them everywhere. jk

If you could get a hose down there I'd spray the area down really well to dilute the ammonia then spray down the area with vinegar then bleach it out.

Your bigger problem is going to be finding out how they get in and blocking the access.

I think you mean feral cats...and you should be okay to use a bleach/water solution on the cement. If you have access to a garden sprayer you could spray the solution back into the crawl space. Good luck!

I think that feral cats are just pharaoh cats without the hats...

LMAO...yes, I mean feral!

My neighbors have all kinds of stuff, I'll see if they have a hose I can use. I'm sure this is going to sound stupid but, how do I make it spray the solution, the only thing I know to make a hose spray is having it connected to a spicket?

also.....once you find and block the possible multiple entrances....set traps on the inside to catch those that didn't get out...

ACK, this is going to be a pain! I thought about that too, how to make sure they are all out of there! Wonder if the neighbors would have any animal traps...maybe I could just get my Moms dog and put her in the crawl space to chase them out! j/k

You're probably going to have to get in there and shag them all out, especially if there's kittens down there. When I was a kid, we had a neighbor who fed strays, and there were always nests with kittens tucked here and there in his garage/carport.

Well, it looks as though this is going to be hard to do (the cleaning part)...just went down there and in the actual basement part there is nothing, it all has to be in the crawl space part!! I tried to look in there hole and yeah, not sure how much I trust going in there its all dirt, stone and pipes!
