Phenochilus, Electra (NOVA)

Has anyone kept either of these species before, are the tough to keep?

your talking about two fish right? I keep both the Placidochromis phenochilus(8") and P. Electra(5") and theyre pretty mild fish. They keep to themselves, and are very beautiful fish.

ps: What does the NOVA in brackets mean?

Yeah, I'm asking about those two fish since I was interested in purchasing both of those species. Electra Nova is described in one of my friends books, I'll get the title, author etc from him in the morning. It is the same size as the Electra, but a much deeper and more vibrant blue. I don't know whether I can get the Electra Nova, but I know I can get the Electra easily. Sorry I can't provide much information, I'll have more when I take a look at his book in the morning.

Chances are it has the same temperament as the regular Electra.

The electra nova is nice looking, but kind of boring compared to the regular electra IMO.I have never seen a electra nova beofre so that is based on the link verse provided

I like my P.electra because it has such a nice irradensence(sp?) and gets quite dark during feeding time.It gets blackish from its mouth to its belly.Quite striking

I keep phenochilus, and yes they are beautiful, and pretty peaceful. I wouldnt mix the 2, but I have a rather large aggressive tank, and always avoid mixing species with similar colors.

If I were to choose between the 2 I would go for the phenochilus. Mine are speckling up real well, and starting to look pretty impressive.

I have a 125 gallon so I think I could mix the two, maybe not...

if your only going with males, then it might work. If your going with pairs, then I wouldnt do it because of hybridization.
