So I am getting high phosphate readings. I went to buy the phosphate block stuff and all they had was Fluval Clearmax. Which says that it removes phosphates, nitrite and nitrate. It then says that it is good for saltwater tanks as well, but caution should be used concerning dosing when putting in a tank with coral/inverts.

Anyone have any idea if this is safe for my tank as a temporary solution until I can find the correct stuff (presumably tomorrow)>

That stuff is fine.. it is a GFO like any other (Phosban, Rowaphos, etc). Put it in a media bag (or it sounds like it already comes in a bag), rinse in the sink until no more red water comes off, and stick it in your back filter somewhere. Should really help your problem, which BTW, can actually be a deadly problem for some SPS corals so be careful with phosphate levels.

that is why I had the urgency to get it. Read that today and about had a heart attack. Thanks man.

Also, have a Alk test kit ready to go. Test your Alk about an hour after adding it, then first thing in the morning. GFO is good, but its biggest drawback is it lowers Alkalinity when first put in. You may have to dose Alk to keep it at good levels. If you don't have alk yet then I definately recommend going to your LFS and getting some B-Ionic or any other 2 part they have on hand. You will always use it/need it so it is good to have (unlike some things like certain suppliments like Iodine, Strontium, etc). Plus the higher the Alk, below 12dkh though, the faster the purple coralline algae grows.

My alk was at 8 this AM. WIll check it tonight and again b4 I go to sleep. Also will be prepared to get some 2 part. Couldn't find anything I needed tonight so will have to make time tomorrow to go the LFS that specializes in reef stuff.
