i was trying to get pictures of my new plants, but Mikey (my angelfish) loves attention so much that it was hard not to get a pictue of him. At least he is photogenic.

nice but might wanna take care of your precious algaes

Beautiful Fish!! The green background really shows him off. He knows a pretty picture!
I have a clown loach that the minute the camera starts flashing is the middle of it all.

Unfortunately, I have a great knack at growing algae. That stuff loves me. I'm taking great steps right now on reducing it. My hands were in the water for about two hours today. I used a very small gravel vac to remove as much waste from the gravel as possible, moved plants around, then planted new plants. I also did some trimming of the old plants and removed a lot of the algae, but my poor fish. i'm going to give them a rest. Algae removal will recomence in a few days. They seem to be doing okay, though. My poor pearl gourami was really stressed from all of the disturbance, but he has recovered. And everyone is enjoying the new plants.

how is your lighting? are you feeding your fish alot?? are you injecting co2?

algae problem is becuase I havne't cared enough about the plants for the past few months. I have about 3wpg, that's on for about 12 hours a day with a 1 hour siesta in the afternoon. I feed my fish roughly every day, but I often let them go without food. I also feed them sparingly, not a single piece of food ever gets more than 1/4 of an inch from the water surface. I was injecting CO2, stopped a few months ago, started up the system last night. I need to add more charcol, I'm going to start with flourish, and hopefully the new plants will all keep the algae down. I need to start removing it sooner too.

mm it could be your lighting, 12 hours is kinda a lot, i have a 7 gallon tank and has 36watts, 8 hours no problem.. what i used to do was i covered the whole tank with newspaper for a week and the algae woud just die and became food for the shrimps, but if you do taht make sure your plants can survive without light... i now cover the rocks or wood with aluminum foil for about couple days to get rid of them.

My book says that 10-14 hours is ideal. I'm going to pick up some shrimp soon which should be good algae patrol, my ottos haven't been doing a very good job.
