Phred, my male Betta has a swollen belly. No pine coning, so not sure it's dropsy (been doing some research). He's blue in color with red tints on the fins, belly is now a light brown. He's eating good (was right there chowing down with the other fish when feeding time came around this evening)

Water tests good (no ammonia or nirites, less than 5 nitrate), just did a 30 % water change SUnday. He seems to be swimming ok, roming around the tank, heading to the surface every so often for a bit of air-no more than normal.

Had him about 9 months now, he's my first fishie (not counting the goldfish in a bowl when I was a lad).

Ideas?

What and how much are you feeding him? Bettas are notorious big pigs and will gorge themselves if given the chance.

Pinch of flake goes into the tank at night when I get home; what I can get between finger and thumb, couple of algea wafers for the snails and Corys. Normally gone in 90 seconds! All the fish in the tank seem to eat it with no problems.

When I was younger I had a betta in a 30 gallon tank ... Had him for years. One time he was floating at the surface all bent up awkwardly and my aunt came over and she was like "OMG" so she took the guy out and did a little mouth to mouth ...

He was fine after that and lived for a couple years longer. Lol
