ok well maybe i wont do a split.. just one return..
here is a link to the site im ordering off of. any pump that you think is workable is ok. its a little bit taller than 4 feet to the top from the stand. i CANT use my rio, i found my box and it wont work. it only puts out like 250gph.
anyways heres the link..

The Eheim 1260, Mag 7, or quiet one 3000 (chosen over the 2200 due to lower wattage and higher rate, so it would work fine) would work for your application. Out of the 3, the Eheim will be the most quiet, while the Quiet One will have the lowest wattage. Any of those would work well for you.
mag 7 will be way to powerful.. its only 4 feet. at their max head of 6 feet the mag will put out 700gph.. i need 600. so at 3feet it would put out 1400gph correct?
if u do some more math to get to 4 feet it would be wayyy to mcuh..?
i ended up with

at 4 feet it came out to 678 gph.. model 1300
then i got a ball valve.
A ball valve would've worked with any of those pumps to get to the flow you desired. Again, they wouldn't run at the rated wattage because you are throttling them back--they'd run less, with less heat. In any case, I always slightly oversize in case of future applications or potential "problems" with any plan.
Where are you getting that number? The ViaAqua 1300 only puts out 370 gph at 0' head. It does significantly less at 4'. The mag 7 also puts out 700 at 0' head. At 4', it puts out around 450 gph (roughly). Those rating are the maximum recommended head pressure for those given pumps--as in they won't pump effectively beyond that height.
Why do you need 600 gph in the aquarium? That will flood the tank if the maximum your overflow can handle is 400 gph. Remember, this is the maximum the overflow can handle--you have to establish an equilibrium with these boxes by matching the pump flow rate (with your ball valve) with that of your overflow siphon. The mag 7 will already put out slightly more than it can handle (~450 gph at 4' head). You should only have to throttle it back a little to get what you want. Should be plenty for what you want to do. The same applies to those other pumps I recommended (except the quiet one, which you'll have to throttle back more). but, if you are in doubt, get a pump that pushes slightly more.
no the overflow can handle 600.. i went with a larger sump. the box is now 600.. so look for a pump that does a little more than 600? or around 700 to compensate for the 4 feet?

thanks again..
and sorry for my stupidity
